Hobe Sound Florida's relationship to its wealthy Jupiter Island neighbor across the Intracoastal Waterway established its distinctive character years ago. Earlier in this century, the winter residents of exclusive Jupiter Island came by train to Hobe Sound which was the center of commercial activity for both island and mainland residents. The two communities grew up together, with a relationship much like that of Palm Beach and West Palm Beach.

Hobe Sound's ability to retain small town charm plus its strong sense of community are factors in attracting new population to the area. Another factor is its nearness to I-95 which enables commuters easy access to West Palm Beach. Area schools are considered among the best in the state and Hobe Sound real estate provides some of the best buys in Martin County.

Jensen Beach Florida

Jensen Beach

Jensen Beach Florida is named after Dutch immigrant John Laurence Jensen who homesteaded the area in 1881 and began planting pineapples. By 1895, so many pineapples were grown in Jensen Beach that it was called the "Pineapple Capital of the World" shipping out a million boxes of the fruit a year.

Today, the pineapple has become a symbol of this charming village. The pineapple is also known as the symbol of hospitality and the friendly residents and relaxing sunshine have a magical way of making any visitor feel right at home. The area (which includes beautiful neighbor Hutchinson Island and its miles of unspoiled beaches) features spectacular boating, fishing, sailing, skiing, surfing and scuba (divers can explore shipwrecks and artificial reefs just offshore). With its major shopping centers, numerous specialty stores and unusual boutiques, Jensen Beach is also renowned as a retail shopping center of the Treasure Coast.

Jupiter Island Florida

Jupiter Island Real Estate
Jupiter Island
Considered the wealthiest town in the United States, Jupiter Island is the southernmost of Florida's three Barrier Islands (the other two being Hutchinson and Orchid Islands). Located off the border of Martin County's Treasure Coast (directly north of West Palm Beach and Palm Beach County), seventeen mile long Jupiter Island's legendary relationship with wealth began in 1715 when the Spanish Plata Fleet wrecked right off the coast spewing tons of silver and gold coins. Many of these coins are still found today only inches below the surf and sand of Jupiter Island.

Jupiter Island Florida's exquisite beauty and promise of privacy have proven irresistible to the rich and famous. Most of the homes on Jupiter Island are built on one and two acre parcels insuring the low density that has contributed heavily to the island's high real estate values.

Palm City Florida

In 1912, Charles C. Chillingworth and his Palm Beach County Land Company (at the time the area was part of Palm Beach County) bought property from original owner George Beckwith and advertised the land throughout the United States, Canada and Europe. Pineapples, oranges and grapefruit were grown at a "Demonstration Farm" on present-day Martin Highway to show farmers what they could expect if they settled in the newly named Palm City. Chillingworth provided boats, mule-teams and covered wagons (later replaced by a Model T Ford) to take the prospective clients around the undeveloped countryside. An advertisement in the Palm Beach County newspaper boasted "Free dinner on New Year’s Day for prospective buyers. A 10 acre tract for $50 per acre (to be raised to $60 the next day) with a free town lot in Palm City to every purchaser and 85¢ for a round trip train ticket from West Palm Beach to Stuart."

Today, Palm City is known for its relaxing Florida lifestyle within close proximity to Martin County's finest golf courses, shops, parks (Florida's 2nd largest state park, Jonathan Dickinson State Park, is 15 minutes away), beaches and fishing.

Port Salerno, Florida is an upscale community located in Martin County between Palm City and Hobe Sound. It is strategically situated where the Atlantic Ocean meets with the Indian River and the St. Lucie River.

As a boating and fishing center, Port Salerno's reputation is world renown. Major Sport Fishing Tournaments are held here each year and there have been numerous World Record Fish caught in the vicinity. It is also home to the internationally known Chapman School of Seamanship.

Today, Port Salerno lies in an area that is one of the fastest growing in Martin County. The area's potential for development was recognized in the early 1970s by those who foresaw potential for people who enjoyed golf as much as they did boating. They established Martin County's first golf course community as well as the Yacht and Country Club of Stuart, with deep water canals leading out to the ocean. Port Salerno is also home to the St. Lucie Inlet Preserve State Park.
